Johnson & Johnson's COVID-19 vaccine is 85% effective against severe cases, and 66% effective overall

As I said at the beginning of the year 2021 will be much happier than 2020 primarily because of new vaccines that have been developed the last couple months.

 I've been keeping a close eye on the latest one produced by  the famous trusted American company Johnson & Johnson (see below) .

Although they are late to get to the game I believe that their vaccine may be one of the most attractive and may help the world overcome COVID - 19 faster than the other ones.

Both of the prior vaccines required either  very expensive extremely low temperature storage or at least two inoculations, were expensive and not easy to get a hold of. 

This is why countries such as Brazil Turkey and Indonesia turned to the Chinese Sinovac vaccine which is still questionable.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is showing only a 60% to 70% effiacy but is 85% effective against preventing deaths from COVID - 19 which is what we really are concerned about.

Watching CNN experts report on teh new vaccine this morning experts such as Dr. Fauci believe this vaccine may be one of the vaccines of choice for many of the less advanced nations. Especially since they're expecting the cost to be less than $10.

For the price of 2 Chickens everyone in Indonesia can be inoculatated.

I even did something rare and bought the stock after hear the news on about it only after I checked the charts and made sure it had not surged already. 

It may be a wrong decision but I am not taking a big risk.

Hopefully this new Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be approved as soon as possible especially with President Joseph Biden who is taking it upon himself to personally win the war against COVID-19.

Hopefully it will be available soon at a drug store near you.

Another COVID-19 vaccine is almost ready to begin being distributed -- a single-shot inoculation made by Johnson & Johnson's Janssen Pharmaceuticals subsidiary. 

 

The company just released an efficacy report based on data from its Phase 3 trial, which found that the new vaccine is 66% effective overall in preventing moderate to severe incarnations of COVID-19 in those who received the jab, and 85% effective in preventing severe disease.

Those numbers aren't as impressive as the reported figures for the Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech vaccines that are already being distributed via emergency FDA approval, both of which reported 90+% efficacy. 

But Johnson & Johnson's vaccine is a single shot rather than a two-course treatment, which should make it much easier to distribute much more quickly. The vaccine also showed 100% efficacy in preventing hospitalization or death among participants in the trial, 28 days after vaccination, which is a key measure when considering the broader impact of COVID-19 on healthcare resources. Efficacy varied by region, with the jab proving 72% effective in the U.S. across moderate and severe cases versus 66% globally.

It's also important to note that Johnson & Johnson's Phase 3 trial is happening amid the emergence of new strains of the virus, including much more contagious versions like the U.K. and South African variants. At the time that both Moderna and BioNTech released their trial data, these variants hadn't yet emerged or been confirmed by pandemic researchers.

Johnson & Johnson's vaccine uses a modified version of a common cold virus to deliver DNA that provides a person's body with instructions on building a replica of the spike protein that SARS-CoV-2 uses to attach to cells. 

The modified adenovirus can't replicate in human cells, however, meaning it won't lead to illness -- only an immune response that can later be employed to combat contracting the virus that leads to COVID-19. 

This adenovirus method is much more proven in terms of use in human patients versus the mRNA method that the other vaccines currently in use employ.

I said at the beginning of the year "2021 will be much happier than 2020".

It has starting off with nothing but good news with the announcement that Tripadvisor, the largest online travel website, after polling it's readers determined that Bali has moved from number four spot to number one spot in the world as the most sought after destination.

Why did Bali move to number one in the middle of a pandemic?

According to Tripadvisor  "based on reviews and ratings for hotels, restaurants, and things to do in destinations worldwide over a 12-month period (December 1, 2019 - November 30, 2020) from Tripadvisor travellers" Bali is now number 1.

There may be many reasons why Bali moved from number four position in 2020 to overtake such famous locations such as London, Paris and Greece.

 When times have been tough through  my long life I always remember Napoleon's Hill  famous saying that I live by.

My saying is a shortened version "That every adversity has within it the seed of an equal or greater benefit."

 I can't help but think that the main reason is because of how severe COVID -19 has affected these previously top three spots the last year.

 If we had not had the COVID - 19 pandemic we probably would still be in number four spot.

 Bali should prepare for above average visitor arrivals after Bali's International airport opens.

 I'm  sure of one of the main reasons that Bali has moved up three spots to number one spot is that it is one of the safest places in the world right with the death toll that is roughly 1/2 of the world's average death toll as much as 70 to 80% lower than places such as the United States.

 A recent study stated that as much as 80% of patients that died of COBIT 19 had a vitamin D deficiency.

 

There's no better way to bring your vitamin D deficiency up to par that sitting on a beach or by your pool private pool in Bali.

If you're a parent like me with two young teenager boys going crazy doing homeschooling you understand how important it is we get our kids back to school as soon as possible.

That is of course is providing the schools can prove that they will adhere to strict guidelines set out by the schools in the United States.

Schools should reopen as soon as possible if social distancing and mask-wearing can be maintained to keep in-person learning safe, health officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said in a study published Tuesday.

The research, published online in the journal JAMA, provides a framework for how to open schools safely while limiting the spread of Covid-19. Research supports "a path forward to maintain or return primarily or fully to in-person instructional delivery," according to the study.

The recommendations provide some clarity about a contentious topic and offer much-needed guidance for local officials, school administrators and parents.

But opening schools safely also requires controlling the virus's spread within communities, the scientists said. As a result, they recommended maintaining other rules that are designed to reduce transmission but have been politically unpopular, such as restrictions on indoor dining.

"Decisions made today can help ensure safe operation of schools and provide critical services to children and adolescents in the U.S.," the scientists wrote. "Some of these decisions may be difficult."

The researchers said fall semester data from schools in the U.S. and internationally show that schools are not responsible for the same type of worrisome outbreaks that have been reported at nursing homes, correctional facilities and "high-density worksites," such as meatpacking plants.

"There has been little evidence that schools have contributed meaningfully to increased community transmission," they wrote. And keeping schools closed "could adversely affect students' academic progress, mental health, and access to essential services."

The CDC scientists said that while a return to in-person learning is recommended, schools should limit activities that could increase the risk of transmission, such as indoor sports practices and competitions.

The study cited a high school wrestling tournament in Florida last month that brought together 130 student-athletes from 10 schools. The tournament became a superspreader event and led to 38 infections. Through contact tracing, 41 more infections were identified, and one death was reported. An investigation to track secondary transmissions continues, according to the study.

To protect students and teachers, the CDC scientists said schools should require certain mitigation measures, such as wearing masks, maintaining physical distance, increasing ventilation indoors and using a "hybrid" approach that combines in-person and online learning when necessary to avoid crowding in classrooms. The guidelines also said testing should be expanded so infected teachers or students can be identified quickly and isolated.

Pasalnya, kebijakan penanganan, terutama pembatasan kegiatan masyarakat dinilainya selama ini hanya setengah-setengah.

Kondisi tersebut menyebabkan angka kasus covid di Bali tidak kunjung mengalami penurunan.

Sementara di sisi lain, perekonomian terus memburuk.

Tagel pun meminta agar ekskutif mengambil keputusan tegas.

Yakni, melakukan lockdown secara total atau aktivitas dibebaskan.

"Jangan setengah-setengah, kasihan masyarakat, kalau lockdown lakukan total dua minggu, kalau dibuka bebas silakan dibuka, agar kita tau kondisi yang sebenarnya," ujarnya, Senin 25 Januari 2021.

Namun Tagel menegaskan, dalam lockdown, pemerintah tidak boleh hanya memberlakukan aturan.

Namun harus menyiapkan kebutuhan pokok masyarakat.

"Ayok lockdown dua minggu, misalkan di Bali bersama-sama kita lakukan.

Dengan catatan kebutan masyarakat terutama pangan beras harus di jamin,".

"Dari pada ada imbauan atau surat edaran tapi hanya berlaku setangah-setengah, kenyataannya di lapangan semua kamuplase, tidak ditindak dengan tegas, penindakan masih pilih kasih.

Lebih bagus lockdown diusulkan dengan cepat dengan biaya pangan.

Daripada stimulus kalau memang komitmen mengentaskan masalah ini," tandasnya.

Politikus PDIP asal Tampaksiring ini pun meragukan alat test covid-19, serta upaya tracing yang dilakukan selama ini.

Pasalnya, kasus covid-19 semakin meningkat.

"Pertanyaan besar saya terkait covid ini, makin hari kok tinggi.

Hasil rapid test dan swab masih meragukan, kok semua penyakit dimasukkan covid.

Orang patah tulang masuk covid, kecelakaan Covid, baru-baru ini pegawai bank yang dibunuh juga dikatakan covid," keluhnya.

Selain itu, Tagel juga dibuat heran dengan virus yang disebut berbahaya ini.

Sebab di lapangan, terdapat masyarakat yang bergejala covid-19, seperti kehilangan indra penciuman justru bisa sembuh dengan obat dokter praktek biasa.

"Tidak perlu ke rumah sakit, mereka sembuh.

Saya tidak tau apa ini bisnis atau bagaimana," ujarnya. (*)

Indonesia expects significant numbers of Chinese tourist arrivals from this year as it longs to see tourists back

Country counts on return of inflow of Chinese that dried up due to virus

Amid rising relief and hope with vaccinations, countries such as Indonesia are now looking to China for their economic recovery, at least for a part of it in tourism.

Indonesia expects significant numbers of Chinese tourist arrivals from this year, although it may be too early to say that Southeast Asia's largest country will soon be ready enough for tourist arrivals in the coming months.

For Indonesia, the most at stake in the coming months is its capability to protect visitors from COVID-19 with adequate facilities and healthcare networks, which was seriously discussed in recent weeks by President Joko Widodo, the newly appointed Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno and other senior officials.

Nationwide vaccination for the country's 270 million people over and beyond the year is posing a daunting challenge.

By 2019 Indonesia was the world's third-most attractive tourist destinations for Chinese travelers, after Japan and Thailand.

Chinese tourist arrivals made up the second-largest group after Malaysians during the year, reaching 2.07 million, or nearly 13 percent of total international arrivals, which reached 16.1 million.

In 2018 Indonesia received 2.1 million Chinese tourists, which ranked second to the 2.5 million Malaysians. In that year Indonesia had 15.8 million arrivals.

And last year, when Indonesian tourism suffered a crushing blow due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it had only 3.5 million inbound travelers between January and September. Last April the country banned the incoming of leisure visitors "until the COVID-19 pandemic is over". Figures on countries of origin of the 3.5 million tourists are unavailable.

Tourism has developed into a dependable economic sector for Indonesia that in 2019 accounted for 5.5 percent of its GDP.

For this, while boosting the development of tourism infrastructure and facilities in different areas of the vast archipelago, Indonesia has carried out large-scale promotions over the years to attract more travelers, from China and other major source countries.

President Joko Widodo has directly raised the issue of more Chinese visitors with President Xi Jinping. The two countries signed a tourism collaboration agreement in Bandung in April 2015, after the commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Asia Africa Conference in the West Java provincial capital.

The effect of the Bandung agreement was mostly visible in North Sulawesi from 2016 to 2019. Direct flights subsequently opened to China have helped boost the popularity of that area among holidaymakers.

Both countries are also encouraging more Chinese tourists especially to visit "Bali and 10 New Bali destinations" such as Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Labuan Bajo (East Nusatenggara), Mandalika (West Nusatenggara) and Jakarta's Thousand Islands.

Moreover, as coronavirus vaccines including Chinese products become available in more and more countries from this year, governments and the tourism industry are keeping an eye on the 100 million Chinese projected to make outbound trips this year alone. Direct and chartered flights from China are among those under discussion.

A forum at Lake Toba on Dec 18, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of Indonesia-China bilateral relations, focused on "Key super priority tourism destinations" that aimed to attract Chinese investors to tourism infrastructure and facility projects in Indonesia.

On exactly when Indonesia will allow in foreign tourists, its Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister, Luhut Pandjaitan, said recently: "I think it will be after the first vaccination … I think the situation (with the pandemic) will begin to get better in May, or June, or July."

His answer also expressed the hope many Indonesians now place in the efficacy of China's Sinovac COVID-19 vaccine, which is being used across the country. President Widodo received the first injection on Jan 13.

In addition to being Indonesia's largest trading partner, China is its third-largest source of overall investment, after Singapore and Japan, as disclosed by the Investment Coordinating Board.

I'm very pleased to say that my prediction at the beginning of the year that  " Prediction of Happier New Year for Bali in 2021"appears to be gelling as I write this.

For the first time in a long time the United States is reporting Covid-19 new cases and deaths are beginning to decline.

Hopefully this trend will continue.

Joseph Bidden is asking for 1.5 million vaccinations per day which will also will help get this under control.

The stock markets are assuming better times ahead with higher stock prices on the indexes than at the end of the year.

 Let's pray this trend continues,especially in Bali where things are pretty dismal at this time.

Also if it's any support I've been studying the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic which is the closest thing we've ever had to COVID - 19.

You will note on a couple of the charts below that in 1919 things started to improve dramatically.

 In fact after it was over we had one of the best economies  the world ever enjoyed during the  early 1920s.

Let's pray that there's happier times ahead in the very near future.

Bali one of the Safest PLaces In the World – To Avoid Death From Covid -19 be like a Water Lilly

  Bali One of The Safest Places in World: 

  Every since Bali had it's first case of Covid-19 back in March of last year statistics prove Bali Is one of the safest places in the world right now.

Statistics on the amount of Covid-19 cases can be manupulated and depends on how much testing is done.

The amount of deaths from Covid -19 on the other hand are usually accurate since Covid-19 deaths are handled very carefully.

As can be seen by the chart below based on World Health Organization Stats countries such as the U.S.A. currently has a death rate of 1,288 per million population. This is much higher than the world average of 273 deaths per million population.

  Although Bali is not a country it only has a rate of 133 deaths per million for an estimated 4.7 Million population.

That is 90 % less than the U.S.A who has some of the best doctors, medicine and equipment in the world.

That is even less than 50 % of the world average death rate of 273 deaths per million population after one year since the first case was reported in China.

Also, you must take into consideration of those deaths if they are like most cases around the world they were primarily those with preconditions health problems or of old age.

Therefore, we can safely assume that of the 133 deaths per million population only a few were persons who were previously healthy and under the age of 50.
 

Which is why I say Bali is one of the safest places in the world to live and travel especially if you are under 50 with no preconditions.

The chances of you dying here from Covid-19 is minuscule . 

 

Why is Bali's Death Rate so Low?

 

There's a reason why Bali has one of the lowest death rates per population in the world.

The most recent research indicates that up to 80% of those who died from Covid-19 recently were suffering from Vitamin - D deficiency.

Many may think that supplements may be the answer but the true answer is simply 15 to 30 min each day of mother nature's supplement, the Sun (Matahari) in Bali.

Then after as little as 15 minutes retreat to the shade just like water lilies to protect your selves against the strong Ultraviolet light. 

Before most Tourists travel to any place in the future they will check out the amount of cases and deaths per population. Bali shines in this area.

While Bali's competition around the world in places such as London, Paris, Rome and more is getting worse Bali is improving.

As it says in an article below in the Wall Street Journal travellers around the world are staying close to home when they travel.

The Chinese, Taiwanese, Koreans and of course Singaporeans and Hong Kong citizens will more than make up for the absence of Australians.

When Asians look around what's available that is safe and easy they will find few choices except for Bali.

Asia which is fast approaching the largest population of any Continents on this earth with over 4.5 B  people will be looking at places such as Thailand, Singapore and Hong Kong to vacation.

Unfortunately most of those countries are still having a serious problem with coronavirus and are under lockdown.

Bali will come out the winner as one of the safest places to travel in Asia and the world.

Let's not forget that Indonesia is the fourth largest population in the world. 

All you have to do is travel to Jakarta and see how much money there is amongst the middle to upper classes.

 

Traditionally they would go vacation abroad but as a Wall Street Journal article points out they may want to stay close to home.

They certainly may want to get out of their own cities which are currently undergoing a dramatic increase in cases and deaths.

I sincerely believe that those Jakarta and Surabaya tourists that have come here in the last few months will go back to their friends and relatives and advise them that they had a wonderful vacation in Bali where most restaurants and attractions were open.

They felt safe because most Balinese were wearing masks when in close conditions.

The felt safe at the hotels because they were exercising strict coronavirus protocol.
