Ministry of Tourism Aims to Welcome 1,5 Million Chinese Tourists to Indonesia in 2024

The Ministry of Tourism aims to welcome 1.5 million Chinese tourists to Bali in 2024. From 2023 data, it is projected that 707,000 Chinese tourists will visit Bali. To facilitate this goal, Ngurah Rai Airport has partnered with 13 airlines to offer direct routes from China to Indonesia.
Director of Regional Tourism Marketing I at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Wisnu Sindhutrisno, disclosed that the current seat capacity amounts to 1.1 million. Additionally, he noted that Chinese tourists typically stay in Bali for 5-7 days, with 65% of visitors falling within the millennial demographic, while the remainder comprises individuals over 40 years old.
Not only Indonesia, but several other tourist destinations in Southeast Asia, such as Thailand and Vietnam, are also aiming for a significant influx of Chinese tourists in 2023. Thailand welcomed 3.5 million tourists, while Vietnam saw 1.7 million visitors.
In 2024, Thailand is setting its sights even higher, targeting 8 million Chinese tourists, and plans to introduce visa exemptions for tourists from China. The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy observes a new travel trend among Chinese tourists, with 65% being young individuals who prefer longer tours and enjoy adventure, nature, and cultural activities.
“The Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy prioritizes equality,” stated Wisnu Sindhutrisno, Director of Regional Tourism Marketing I at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy. “That’s why all promotional initiatives targeting China this year include highlighting tourist villages, homestays, and community-centric destinations.”
In addition to these efforts, the ministry plans to participate in various exhibitions such as the Macau International Travel Expo, conduct marketing missions in China, organize familiarization trips for the Chinese market, and foster partnerships with tour operators and travel agents.______________________
A Coming Wave: Chinese Tourism and Real Estate in Bali
This above article about the surge in Chinese tourists to Bali brings back a vivid memory.
Approximately ten years ago, in Guangzhou, China I was representing the Indonesian government at a conference for roughly 200 Chinese travel agents.
|
Speaking at Chinese Roadshow in Guangzhou, China. 16 years ago. |
After my presentation, during individual introductions, I made a bold prediction: "Chinese tourists would soon become the number one source of visitors to Bali".
"Chinese tourists would soon become the number one source of visitors to Bali".
My fellow hoteliers scoffed. "Crazy!" they said. Back then, China wasn't even close – they ranked a lowly 18th.
Even the Indonesian government seemed unconvinced by my prediction"
Fast forward five years. Lo and behold, the Chinese tourism market exploded, surpassing Australians to become the dominant force in Bali for one year. Then came the pandemic, disrupting everything.
But here's the thing: China is just a 4.5-6 hour flight away. And as of today. it only cost a little under $500. USD. a huge savings over flying to Europe, which would cost a minimum $1500.
Google Flights March 29th 2024 on April 15. The flight with China Eastern (MU5030) takes 6 hours and 30 minutes and starts at IDR 8,100,800 (round trip).
In the aftermath of a global pandemic, people will likely prioritize closer destinations. Additionally, China's current economic slowdown means extravagant European vacations will be less appealing.
Bali, consistently ranked among the world's top travel destinations (Tripadvisor #1 or #2 globally, #1 in Asia by some sources), is perfectly positioned to capitalize.
Mark my words, within the next three to five years, China is highly likely to reclaim the top spot for tourist arrivals in Bali.
"China is highly likely to reclaim the top spot for tourist arrivals in Bali."
And that's not all. Alongside the tourist influx, expect a surge in Chinese real estate investment. Australia, with its growing anti-foreign sentiment, is no longer as welcoming.
Singapore's property market dwarfs Bali's in price.
Hong Kong's investment climate is uncertain.
Bali, on the other hand, offers affordability and proximity (4.5 to 6-hour flight) for Chinese buyers.
While predictions are never foolproof, I have a proven track record in anticipating real estate trends. W
hile I may be wrong, history suggests Chinese tourism and investment in Bali are poised for a significant comeback.
Bali's Current Hottest Real Estate Markets
Few people have witnessed the explosive growth of Bali's real estate market over the last 22 years more closely than Canadian Born resdient of Bali for past 26 years, Lawrence.
He and his Wife Azizah a Notaris own and operate award-winning P.T. Bali Affordable Lifestyles International since 2004.
His deep experience in this market is evident. "When I began advising buyers on Bali real estate in 2002 just after the fall of Indonesia's long-term president, investors took a leap of faith," he recalls. "I wrote an article in the Bali Sun Newspaper titled "Bali is Hawaii 30 years ago."
"Bali is Hawaii 30 years ago"
Fast-forward to today, and some of those early properties have appreciated as much as 4,000%.
Three months ago Lawrence predicted 2024 would be the most explosive year yet for the Bali's real estate market, especially on its popular East Coast in or near the first Resort Area in Bali, Sanur .
"2024 the most explosive year yet"
He stated "This boom is fueled by a convergence of factors: a major new medical tourism hospital, numerous new hotels and a new shopping mall under construction, and a wave of retiring baby boomers seeking a tranquil yet amenity-rich paradise.
For investors and retirees alike, now is the time to secure the Bali lifestyle with an apartment or villa purchase starting at a remarkably affordable $88,000 USD.
"Sanur not Snore Anymore"
According to Wikipedia. Sanur pronounced sah-noor) is a coastal stretch of beach east of Denpasar in southeast Bali (about a 30-minute drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport)
For the 26 years he lived in Sanur it was called "Snore" because it attracted Seniors and Baby Boomers to quiet lifestyle, famous beach and inexpensive cost of living.
Recently Bali has been showered with accolades in 2023 ,& 2024 snagging titles like "Second Best Destination in the World,"
This translates to one thing, a tourism boom, and with it, a surge in rental income.
Remember his saying, "Bali real estate demand is directly proportional to tourist demand".
"Bali real estate demand is directly proportional to tourist demand"
It's been a golden rule for the 26 years he has called this Island home, and he see no signs of it changing.
EDITOR. Lawrence & Family at Home.
The fuel for Sanur's coming Real Estate firestorm: 2,000 to 3,000 New Employees:
The massive Bali International Hospital is set to open its doors, bringing with it a wave of medical professionals and support staff seeking comfortable digs.
Where will Doctors, Medical Technicians, and Support Staff Live?
While most Medical Professionals will initially rent, a significant portion (think doctors, medical technicians, and other high earners) will eventually put down roots and buy.
This influx of buyers is poised to propel Sanur and Suburbs real estate market to new heights, making it the hottest ticket in Bali, perhaps even Indonesia, and dare I say, Southeast Asia, in the coming year.
5 - Star Hotel 1,000 Staff ?
The swanky new Meru hotel will need a place for its team to call home, injecting further demand into the market.
New Icon Mall - 300 to 500 Employees:
Retail therapy is coming to Sanur in a big way, and the mall's staff will need a place to rest and recharge.
Sanur & its suburbs' chilled vibes and proximity to world-class healthcare make it a magnet for baby boomers, who represent 25% of the world's population and hold 50% of the cash.
Talk about a lucrative demographic! So, where will all these new residents live? Sanur and its suburbs, of course. Here are Lawrence's predictions on the three most sought-after areas of the East Coast, perhaps all of Bali in the next 12 -24 months.
