Facebook just reminded me in my memories that 10 years ago it was not only my birthday but also when I completed the first bedroom of my first estate at Bali Paradise Beach Estates and moved in.
It was quite a challenge at the time after 13 years of living here to find the perfect beachfront property to fulfil my lifetime dreams of living on the beach.
Location, Location, Location.
The location not only had to be beautiful, but it had to be close to Sanur, Denpasar and Ubud.
Then I would have easy access to my office, plenty of shops, restaurants, and medical facilities.
It was also very close to the airport, taking no more than 30 to 45 minutes, which is swift for any location in Bali.
After I found the location, which was previously prawn farms, therefore not sacrificing rice paddies, then the negotiations began which at times were tiring and frustrating.
I almost gave up several times.
But persistence paid off and we ended up with a huge beachfront property that was later broken into parcels and sold off providing almost a free beachfront parcel for me.
After building 55 villas luxury villas the five previous Years in Sanur I had a lot of experience with building. I chose a friend at the time, an Australian contractor, to do the building on a cost-plus basis.
When you are a developer building for yourself you want all the bells and whistles including energy-saving devices for the environment and water saving devices to help conserve water.
Finally, 1 & 1/2 years later the day before my birthday 10 years ago I was able to move into the master bedroom and fulfil my lifetime dream.
I have never left since then.
I first moved into Bali Paradise Beach State number three which is a 4.5-bedroom 120 m from the beach on July 27, 2012.
I was a bachelor at the time. At first it seemed very lonely living in huge home in the middle of the jungle.
Fortunately, my live in housekeeper at $150 a month and my almost daily massages at only five dollars an hour gave me some company.
Each day when I first woke up to towering 3,200 Mount Agung volcano I realized that I this was a magical place and all my hard work had finally paid off.
When I looked to the west I enjoyed the full lush green rice paddies.
I knew that they would always be there because of setback rules from a major temper on the top of the hill.
The view of the ocean and across the Badung straits to the islands of Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida with magical sunrises over the channel every morning made me soon realize that this was home forever.
I would usually start my morning with a swim in my huge 14 m ( 42 F) pool or a dip in the ocean less than 30 seconds away.
I felt a freedom that I never had before.
I decided on luxurious marble floors and vanities upstairs and downstairs.
Marble provided luxury that is usually only afforded to palaces, hotels, and very expensive homes.
When I walked out to the beach the first time and went north along Pantai Purnama I soon discovered that I was living in a private world with no tourists around.
I became friends with the local fishermen who used unique fishing techniques to walk along the beautiful beach and enjoy the magical sunrise.
I soon arrived at a surf break where foreign surfers were enjoying their secret surf spot.
Next I came upon the magical Saba River, one of the largest rivers in Bali and one of the cleanest.
In those days as I wandered up the river I came across plenty of sea birds’ & water lizards.
I looked back towards the ocean with the sun rising over the Badung stress and I could see as far at 3,400 Mt. Rinjani on Lombok Island 120 km away.
It was then that dawned on me this is going to be some of the purest cleanest air in the world.
It must be good for my health especially with my dust mite allergies which are difficult to control in most areas of the world.
I knew right then this was the right decision.
Ever since a boy when I lived in Nova Scotia close to the ocean often visiting my relatives at the time who were poor fishermen but in the future had multimillion dollar beachfront homes I fell in love with the beach
Here I was over five decades later back to where I belong.
The name of the beach is Pantai Purnama which means full moon beach. The ancients named it so for very good reason it is one of the most brilliant moons in the world that I've ever seen and I've travelled a lot.
I lived in BPE-3 for over a year enjoying life to its fullest in a style that only multimillionaires could afford at a fraction of the cost.
The other properties around me were sold to other successful persons who decided at that time not to build on them.
This afforded me my own private jungle almost all the way around .
Full Moon Palace:
Then my Australian contractor and I began building what would be the palace I'm living in now.
It is a grand 650 m² on one thousand square metres of land right on the beach.
We spared no expense including a 14 m private swimming pool and a six-person private Jacuzzi beachfront.
Magnificent fishponds throughout the grounds.
Top-of-the-line reflective of glare glass and M class tiles added to the luxurious finish.
When we finished the tall 15 m ceiling I thought of the Sistine Chapel in Italy.
When I walked in I decided we wouldn't paint it one colour but make the roof like a sky so that it all blended together creating a magnificent interior that may not be duplicated in Bali.
The view from the master bedroom affords 180° all the way from the Sunrise over the ocean all the way down to Sanur.
There are many features which I won't bother mentioning because it is not for sale.
On the rare occasions I have thought of selling I just resigned myself to the fact "where am I going to find something better than this."
"Where am I going to find something better than this."
Over
the past eight years we have had plenty of company parties there
entertaining upwards to 120 staff plus her families to celebrate each
year anniversary of our company PT Bali Affordable Lifestyles
International.
But the most blessed thing that ever happened to me during this time was not building these two beautiful homes but meeting my lovely wife Azizah and her two brilliant boys Xander and Darius.
Living in a palace was fine but it was empty without them.
This King needed his Queen and Prince's.
We
decide to get married quickly and six years ago celebrated our joining
with a huge party at our beachfront residence with many of our friends
and clients.
The last six years now I’ve been with my wonderful wife Azizah who is naturally beautiful but also extremely intelligent with a master’s degree in law and a Notaris license thing have become substantially easier.
She is able to handle the legalities of running several businesses in Bali.
She also teaches me how to culturally deal with people so that there is a win-win situation for everyone.
Darius and Xander have grown up.
Sadly Xander will will graduate from Gandhi Memorial School and has set his sights on going to college in Australia since he has an Australian citizenship as well.
Life at Bali Paradise Beach never ceases to amaze me.
From watching magnificent kites fly overhead to magical ceremonies with the local Balinese on the beach.
Especially the sun which rises every day in all its brilliance.
A
lot of people say I've I am lucky and when they say that I say "luck
has nothing to do with it.
I had a goal. I made a plan often going two
steps forward and one step backwards but always towards the end goal of
living here."
And so, we are blessed to live here not to far from our office and thriving business in Sanur.
We are also less than one KM from our new business in the future just down the beach our Bali Luxury Retirement Villas.
Those who want to move here full-time can enjoy a two-bedroom two bathroom Villa with private swimming pool only 200 m from the beach freehold or with 80 years of leases included starting at only $228,000. USD.
I am going to finish this 10th anniversary day and another birthday picking up our children at school.
Later we will go down to the Santrian hotel have some refreshments and appetizers watching the sun go down.
Finally we will dine at one of my favourite restaurants in the famous Naga Chinese restaurant on the grounds of the Hyatt Regency hotel on the border of oiur award winning PT. Bali Luxury Villas.
It features one of my favourite meals on of the best the best roast duck in Bali
Attractive lifestyle.
If you taken the time to read this blog and look at the photos you may be drooling and perhaps even jealous.
There's no need because the original house that I built with all the marble, the massive
4 1/2 bedroom 5 1/2 bathroom is for sale as we don't have a need for it anymore.
I hevely discounted it to $478,000 Freehold.
I’ve kept the prices of the other properties I have
available here is for some time but now I need cash after Covid-19 so we
can pursue our Bali Luxury Retirement Villas and Bali Emerald
Apartments.
If you two have had a dream of a luxurious home
next to the beach this is your opportunity.
In the next 5 to 10 years,
you make tremendous profits in my professional humble opinion.
Come down have refreshments on the bale and discover why I this is one of the best places to live-in the world
