On board the first flight to Bali as quarantine-free travel reopened to Australia
A Current Affair joined the first flight over to Bali from Melbourne's Tullamarine Airport as quarantine-free travel reopened to Aussies.
Melbourne resident Keith Baker was among those who boarded the first Jetstar flights to Denpasar in two years.
"I love it and I'm going to go stay there for six months to a year now and see what happens and sell my house up," Mr Baker told A Current Affair.
"They like to look after you, you know what I mean, and that's why I like to be here."
Sandy Hollingworth from Ballarat couldn't wait to get back either.
"I love the Balinese people, always have. I think they're beautiful people," Ms Hollingworth said.

"You can go and lay in the beach, the pool, but the Balinese people make you feel better."
The holiday island, which relies economically on tourism, has taken an absolute battering over the past few years. While Bali has been a well-known destination for Australian tourists and schoolies, it's now a completely different place after taking a hit from the COVID-19 pandemic.
But while travel has restarted again this week, so far it's still been a little quiet.
"Very different, there's obviously a lot closed and everything but yeah it's pretty quiet," Ruby from Victoria's Mornington Peninsula said.
The Bintangs are cold, but the bars are still empty. Although there are tourists arriving there are barely any Australians there yet.
Among some of the first Aussies to arrive were social media stars and self-proclaimed "influencers" Erin James, Bailey Scarlett and Christie Lucic, who travel the world for the perfect shot.
"I'm just excited for my first holiday without my parents ... I think 'yeah ... first time without my parents' so I think it's going be very interesting," Ms Lucic said.
"Hopefully we all stay nice and safe … and (we) don't get into any trouble."
"But we will run amok," Ms James said.
While there are fewer tourists, the beaches from Nusa Dua to Kuta appear to be cleaner than usual .
Looking at the once-bustling party strips it's clear Bali has suffered because of the loss of international tourism.
There are for lease signs everywhere and many businesses have closed.
Bali-based chef Kieran Morland, who is originally from Melbourne, said it's been "pretty crazy … especially around Seminyak where our restaurants are such a touristy … place".
He said in the space of a week every single tourist left and "it's kind of been a ghost town for the past two years basically".
He now wants more holidaymakers to choose Bali as their travel destination.
"Come back and enjoy, there's such a large area of Seminyak, Legian, Kuta, at the moment it's a bit abandoned so it needs Aussies back," Mr Morland said.
Despite quarantine requirements being lifted for Australians, there are still rules in place.
Travellers will need to have a PCR test 48 hours before their departure time and another one on arrival, but those tests can be organised at the airport. Visitors will also need to take a PCR test on day three of their stay in Bali.
But those rules will likely be relaxed further in the coming weeks and as more tourists return, the island should soon start to look more like its bustling old self.
While flights from Melbourne to Bali have resumed, flights from Sydney and Perth will resume next month, and from Brisbane in March.

Jetstar resumes flights to Bali after two-years

Bali holidays are officially back after authorities eased COVID-19 border rules and Australian airlines resumed direct flights to the holiday hotspot.
Fully
vaccinated travellers to the Indonesian island, which welcomed as many
as 1.23 million Aussies a year before the COVID-19 pandemic, no longer
need to undergo quarantine upon their arrival.

More
than 300 passengers were set to take off on Jetstar’s first flight to
Bali in two years on Monday morning from Melbourne’s Tullamarine
airport.
The close to sold-out flight is the first directly to Bali from an Australian airline since planes were grounded in March 2020.

Jetstar CEO Gareth Evans said he was thrilled to be resuming flights to one of the airline’s most popular routes.
“We
are very excited to return to Bali today after two long years, and we
are confident that Bali will quickly regain its position as our most
popular international tourist destination now that borders are open,” he
said.
“Our recent Bali sale saw the biggest surge in bookings
we’ve seen since 2016, and our recent surveys have consistently shown
that Bali is still the top international destination people want to
travel to.

Pre-COVID,
Jetstar operated up to 85 return flights per week to Bali, carrying
more than two million customers each year and contributing almost two
billion Australian dollars annually to the local Balinese economy.
Bali
received more than 6.3 million international visitors in 2019, but the
number of foreign arrivals dropped to just 45 last year because of
pandemic restrictions.
Bali travel rules
Visitors from 23 countries, including Australia, are allowed to get visas on arrival in Bali from Monday March 14.
Fully
vaccinated travellers do not need to spend any time in hotel or home
quarantine, but must show hotel bookings for at least four days and
proof of negative polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests.
Previously,
international visitors to Bali were required to undergo a three-day
quarantine period, in addition to proof of vaccination.

Full details have been finalised at last regarding the new arrival rules for Bali.
While
it’s not quite back to the good old days of travel, these new rules are
definitely a step in the right direction to getting back to what we
remember as normal travel.
From
March 8th international travellers who land in Bali and are fully
vaccinated (booster is not mandatory) no longer need to undergo
mandatory quarantine.

There are some requirements you need to follow though before you jump on that flight! We’ve listed them below…
1)
You need a negative PCR test taken no earlier than 48 hours prior to
your departure. If you are travelling from Australia, we recommend
checking out Histopath who have 90-minute testing options at most international airports.
2) You must have a copy of your vaccination certificate – double or triple vaccination is required.
3)You must have a confirmed booking for at least three consecutive nights at a CHSE certified hotel.
Editors Note :
During the last two years of the pandemic many Bali hotels and villas have not been kept up and have deteriorated substantially.
CHSE approved Hotels and Villas have recently had a full inspection by government agencies to determine that they are Clean, Healthy, Safe, and Environmentally friendly.

3) You must have a valid visa. Currently there are 21 countries that
are eligible for a Visa On Arrival, tourists from other countries will
need to obtain a B211A visa prior to arrival. Resident visas and
Indonesian passport holders are able to land directly in Bali. *see
notes below on the list of countries eligible for Visa on Arrival
4) All tourist arrivals must be able to show proof of Travel Insurance that covers COVID.
5) Arrivals must be able show a return flight.
6) All Passports need to be valid for 6 months from departure.
7) You must fill out the online customs declaration from before departure. Find it here –http://cdbali.net
8) You need to download the PeduliLindungi app and fill out the e-HAC form before checking in at the departure airport.
What happens when you land?
1) Upon landing in Bali, travellers will undergo a PCR test. The cost of this test is 275,000 Rp (approx. $27 AUD).
2) Once you have been swabbed for your PCR you will go directly to your pre-booked hotel.
3) Once your negative results come through to you (this is expected to take a few hours) you will be free to explore Bali as much as you like.
4)
On Day 3 in Bali, you will need to take another PCR test at your
accommodation, once you receive negative results you are free to stay
wherever you wish and travel right throughout all of Indonesia. All
testing results are tracked in the PeduliLindungi app.
What if you are arriving and live in Bali?
1)
If you are a resident of Bali, you will need to show proof (KTP or
SKTT) and you will be able to take your PCR test on arrival and head
directly to your home.
2)You will still be required to take a day 3 PCR test.
What if I test positive?
Any
individual who tests positive and have either no symptoms or mild
symptoms, isolation is carried out in isolation hotel. If the traveller
has severe symptoms, they will be treated in a hospital. Some of the
larger hotels also have wings designated for positive cases.
What is CHSE certified accommodation?
CHSE
stands for ‘Cleanliness, Health, Safety and Environmental
Sustainability’. To be certified the accommodation must have been able
to show that it has health and safety protocols such as mask wearing,
social distancing and regular hand washing.
There are many CHSE
hotel, resorts, villas, and homestays in Bali. Our best recommendation
is to contact the property you have already booked or are considering
booking and ask them to confirm if they are CHSE certified (they should
be able to show you a certificate).
There are many, many CHSE
certified accommodations than the lists you see floating around social
media, and far too many to list here. There are options in all budget
ranges.
Here are some sights to checkout to see some of the range
of hotels that are CHSE approved…it’s extensive! You can book these
either directly, through a travel agent or an any booking platform such
as booking.com
Which countries are eligible for a Visa On Arrival & how much does it cost?
The eligible countries are – Australia, USA, Netherlands, Brunei,
Philippines, UK, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea,
Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, France, Qatar, New Zealand, Singapore,
Thailand, Turkey, UAE, Vietnam.
The cost of the VOA is 500,000 Rp (approx. $50 AUD) for 30 days. This can be paid in cash or MasterCard or Visa on arrival.
For all other nationalities the B211 Tourism Visa is needed for tourists.
How long will these requirements be in place?
As
you may have been following along in recent months, the requirements of
entry are changing quickly. We don’t know how long these requirements
will be in place, however we are all hopeful that if this next stage
goes well that entry requirements will continue to be eased in the
coming weeks and months.

Gov. Koster have done a magnificent job on handling the Covid-19 crisis.
