During a virtual National Coordination Meeting For Economic Recovery on Thursday Nov 26th 2020, Budi Karya mentioned that Indonesia should consider reopening the border, especially for the province of Bali as the island is economically dependent on tourism.

He stated, “We have started agreements with China and Singapore to open international flights for both countries”.
Karya explained that there will be more focus on providing direct flights from either country to Bali without transit, and some of the airports in Indonesia are now ready to receive the direct flights.
Bali Another Day, Another Adventure
Karya stated that they are going to ensure all public transportation including airports, bus stations and harbors will be properly sanitized in order to prevent virus transmission.

“I will personally inspect all the public transportation facilities to ensure that all prevention protocols are being implemented” Budi Karya added.
There will also be mandatory testing in place to ensure all visitors are free from COVID-19 before traveling to Bali.

However, Karya hasn’t made an official statement on when Indonesia will open its borders for international tourists.
Budi Karya and the Tourism and Creative Economy Minister, Wishnutama, have agreed that they will continue to be focused on domestic tourism for the year-end holiday season, while preparing the plan for international travelers in the near future.

Good things come in threes, it’s often said, and so it seems appropriate that a triple play of positive developments lifted the Dow Jones Industrial Averageover 30,000 this week.Barclays equity derivatives strategists point to a “perfect trifecta of outcomes” for the rally: a “decisive victory” scenario in the U.S. elections; news of effective Covid-19 vaccines; and positive surprises on third-quarter earnings—an average gain of 18% for S&P 500 companies, with more than 80% beating expectations.

Turning a home into a castle takes work, but a big deck certainly helps, particularly if you’re trying to socially distance. For many people, decking has made the pandemic bearable, which has been a boon for Chicago-based decking supplier Azek.

Hong Kong home prices to extend decline
The home price index for lived-in homes fell 0.6 per cent to 380.9 last month, as owners continued to settle for less than the asking price
Lay-offs at big firms like Cathay Pacific might influence other companies’ decisions about job cuts and unpaid leave, further denting demand, warned Knight Frank

The
fourth wave of coronavirus infections is expected to drag Hong Kong’s home prices down further after they “unexpectedly” fell 0.6 per cent in October.
In an earlier-than-expected release, the government’s Rating and Valuation Department on Thursday revealed that the secondary market home price index dropped to 380.9 last month.
“Even though the epidemic was relatively stable, the property price index last month unexpectedly softened,” said Derek Chan, head of research at Ricacorp Properties.
He believed this was because the economic situation – Hong Kong is mired in its worst ever recession – and
high unemployment are still rattling the market.
The number of confirmed
cases of Covid-19 decreased significantly in October, and the market for new homes became very active again. And in the second-hand market, some homeowners had been less willing to bargain with potential buyers, suggesting a slight rebound in confidence.
Nonetheless it is likely that most of October’s transactions involved owners who were still willing to reduce their asking prices because of concerns about the economic outlook, Chan said. It was this, rather than a lack of positive market sentiment, that led to the surprise fall in the property price index last month, he believes.
Property prices are down 4 per cent from their historical high of 396.9 points in May last year.
The November index is expected to be slightly softer again, though the monthly decline may narrow to about 0.3 per cent, according to Chan.
The fourth wave of the epidemic in Hong Kong, and the
huge lay-offs by the city’s airline Cathay Pacific, are cause for concern. Chan said the decline in the property price index in December may widen to 1 per cent or more because of a lag in registered sales data.
The sudden latest wave of the epidemic forced Chan to revise his original forecast that property prices could rise by 3 per cent in the fourth quarter to a fall of more than 1.5 per cent.
“Property prices in the next two months are likely to continue to adjust downward,” said Thomas Lam, executive director at Knight Frank.
The current real estate market is very “distorted”, as residential property prices are still high and sales of first-hand properties are very strong, he said. He predicts the decline in prices this year will be about 2 to 3 per cent, which is less than he had previously feared.
He warned that large-scale lay-offs in big firms like Cathay Pacific might influence other companies’ decisions about job cuts and unpaid leave. He said most companies are likely to increase salaries at a very slow pace next year, affecting wage earners’ purchasing power.
Lam called on the government to relax special stamp duties to increase activity in the second-hand market, which would take some heat out of the demand for new homes and help owners with cash-flow problems to cash out or reduce their debt.
“I really hope that the government can use non-traditional thinking to examine the real estate market in extraordinary times,” Lam added. “Under the current market conditions, traditional mechanisms may not be effective to solve the problems.”
Elsewhere, New World Development sold about 90 per cent of the 315 units on sale at its Pavilia Farm phase two development in Tai Wai on Thursday. Altogether, it has sold more than 2,100 units for more than HK$23 billion in phases one and two since the development’s launch last month.

BALI HOTELS SELLING ROOMS FOR £9 IN DESPERATE BID TO ATTRACT TOURISTS
Ubud, Bali
Properties are also slashing rates for long-term stays
Helen Coffey@LenniCoffey 20 hours ago
Hotels in Bali are selling rooms for less than £9 in a bid to attract tourists.
A lack of international visitors has left many people on the Indonesian island, which relies heavily on tourism, struggling to survive.
Bali has reopened to domestic holidaymakers, but has been off-limits to foreign visitors since April.
Ambitious plans to reopen borders in September were shelved after a rise in coronavirus cases across the country.
In response, hotels have slashed their prices, hoping to entice Indonesian residents by offering cheap stays.
The owner of the Pillow Inn Ubud told The Bali Sun that the hotel had slashed rates in half; The Independent found rooms available for £14 a night.
Another property, Yoga Amertham Retreat and Resort in Ubud, said rooms were available for less than £9 and meals were being sold for 5,000 Indonesia rupiah – just 27p.
Other accommodation providers are trying to lure long-stay guests by advertising attractive monthly rates.
“We’re targeting long-stay guests, for monthly or even annual rent with a 50 per cent discount on the normal rate,” said Ida Bagus Wiryawan from the Ubud Homestay Association.
Bali relies on tourism for much of its income. The number of international tourists to Bali grew by 3.6 per cent in 2019 to 6.3 million, according to annual Bali Province Tourism Development Statistics from Badan Pusat Statistik Provinsi Bali.
Despite initial hopes that Bali would be able to reopen earlier this year, the island confirmed in August that it would remain closed until 2021, along with the rest of the country.

“After considering all the current factors that are of serious concern, it can’t be done,” the governor of Bali, Wayan Koster, announced at a press conference.
“It is not possible to open Bali for foreign tourists which we originally planned for 11 September.”
Bali’s tourism industry could suffer further setbacks if proposed legislation to make drinking alcohol illegal goes ahead.
Indonesia's House of Representatives continues to mull over a draft bill that would ban booze and threaten those found producing, distributing and storing it with jail sentences of two to 10 years.
There would be less severe sentences for those caught consuming alcohol.
The proposal is being mooted by 21 politicians from conservative Islamic parties, who are citing parts of the Koran indicating that Muslims should not drink alcohol.
Bali officials have made it clear they are not in support of the restrictions.

61% of Americans changed their Thanksgiving plans due to Covid-19 spikes, new poll finds
By Naomi Thomas, CNN
Updated 2226 GMT (0626 HKT) November 24, 2020
(CNN)Sixty one percent of Americans have changed their Thanksgiving plans due to recent spikes in Covid-19 cases, according to new poll results released Tuesday by Axios-Ipsos.
The most common changes reported were seeing only immediate household members and having a smaller dinner than originally planned, according to the poll, which was based on a nationally representative sample of 1,002 US adults and conducted between November 20 and 23.
Dr. Sanjay Gupta: I won't be visiting with family this Thanksgiving. You shouldn't either.
Nearly one in 10 Americans -- 9% -- said they no longer plan to celebrate the holiday at all.
Democrats were more likely to report changing their plans than Republicans: 75% and 49%, respectively. Democrats were more likely to say they now planned to stay home with their immediate household. Among Republicans who changed plans, slightly more said they were getting together with a smaller group compared to their immediate household.
Sixty four percent of those in the poll said that seeing family or friends was a large or moderate risk; 76% said this about traveling.
CNN Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta has reported on how the US has broken new records for coronavirus hospitalizations and deaths. Due to the spike, 61% of Americans have changed Thanksgiving plans, according to new poll results.
The poll also saw some changes in personal behaviors. Seventy-two percent of respondents said that dining at a restaurant was a large to moderate risk, up from 68% in Axios-Ipsos' results last week. Fewer people reported actually going out to eat: 33% compared with 40% last week.
Three-quarters of respondents said that spending more time indoors in public places as it gets colder is risky.
The number of Americans wearing a mask at all times when they leave their home has reached a new high of 72%. While this isn't a significant change from last week, it shows "a steady upward trend from the past few months, when it hovered in the mid-60% range."
US Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams emphasized that the safest Thanksgiving gatherings only include immediate household members. "I think of three things," he said, speaking Tueday on Fox and Friends. "I think of preparation, of separation, and of ventilation."
Should you visit your family for the holidays? Here's Dr. Leana Wen's answer
For preparation, Adams said that people should -- starting right now -- do everything they can to limit their exposure to others outside their household.
"You should also tell people who are at higher risk -- older people with chronic medical conditions -- 'Look, let's do it next year. Keep it small this year. Let's keep Grandma safe,'" he said.
While it's safer to gather outside and maintain social distancing, it's safer to not gather with anyone outside your household, he said.
"These are things you can do to have a safer gathering," Adams said. "Even though I want you to remember the safest gathering is with the immediate members of your household."
