Day 3- Sangeh Monkey Forest - Fabulous family trip to four of Bali's most famous scenic places to celebrate Indonesia's 75th diamond anniversary.

Continued from Day 2 - of our Fabulous family trip to Beratan Temple,

On the third and final day of our fabulous family trip to four of Bali's most famous scenic places I woke early and took a quick stroll up the hill behind our friends lodge.

The Bedugul area of Bali is famous for fresh vegetables & fruits and special especially fresh lettuce.

In the background is Lake Danua Buyan.

After a short stroll it was time to get everybody up to head back home after one last sightseeing venture

We would have been remiss if we did not bring home some fresh handpicked strawberries.

After devouring most of them when we got home we wished we had purchased more.

Along the way we decided to stop at the famous Sangeh Monkey Forest. which we had discovered for the first time on a previous trip a month earlier but was closed due to Covid 19.

We vowed to return and were happy that we did because there was only one other visitor to the site at the time.

Once again we had the site to ourselves .

Sangeh located in Sangeh village, abiansemal Sub District, Badung Regency, Bali, Indonesia.

Sangeh is famous for being a village where monkeys roam freely and are sacred to locals in a forest. 

In the middle of the forest there is also a temple called Pura Bukit Sari. This temple was built by the kingdom of Mengwi and now handed over to the locals. 

The monkeys here have King and are said to have three Kingdoms territory.

History

According to legend, the existence of Pura Bukit Sari in this forest is told mythological in Lontar Babad Mengwi. 

There are some beautiful several hundred-year-old temples at the site.

This particular one the guide told us was 400 years old.

It wasn't long before my little monkey Darius found a friend.

This monkey was right at home as soon as Azizah started serving him some treats

It wasn't long before one climbed on top of my other son Xander.

And another on top of Azizah.

Finally one did what most monkeys do in Bali climbed to the tallest person and play King of the Hill.

Xander was worried because at another monkey forest  one climbed on him and urinated. Fortunately that didn't happen this time.

The monkey seemed quite at home. 
Since we were virtually the only guests there they paid us a lot of attention.

This little baby caught my eye and I shot off 20 photos to get this perfect one.

Unfortunately as normal, mothers always have to protect her young and therefore don't get in on the action.

The forest with it's magnificent tall trees was simply stunning.

There are several really beautiful statues as well.

I noticed that several of the monkeys were being very mischievous and bouncing on the tin roofs and tearing them up.

I thought to myself I would not want to be neighbours. Monkeys don't have boundaries.

At the end of of the tour we came across a tree that the guide said was a protected fertility tree.

Legend has it if a woman grabs the middle which of course looks like a penis they will soon be pregnant.

There are some great photo ops here.

Then we went to another area of the forest which was even more natural with even larger trees.

We finally continued our Drive  back down to our home and made a point of stopping at 11:18 Bali time at a small café on a beautiful rice paddy that had no one there. So it was very safe from coronavirus.

We watched on our mobile the celebrations that were taking lace in Jakarta almost 1,000 KM to the west of Bali marking exactly 75 years ago or the Diamond anniversary of when Indonesia's first Presidents Sukarno gave his  speech declaring Indepndance from Dutch rule after several hundred years of occupation.

As I watched middle-aged lady carried a huge load of elephant grass to feed her cows.

I felt after living here for 23 years that I was part of Bali and would never leave.

Bali and Indonesia have a wonderful future and I and my family will certainly be part of it.
