Good Morning World from
Bali Indonesia. Welcome to the Last Quarter of 2018
It is now Monday, October
1st. 7:54 AM in Bali and Sunday night Sept. 30th.
in New York.
As we start off the last
quarter of 2018 I have some bad news, some ugly new and some good news for you,
especially if you live in Bali.
Earthquake, Tsunami Kill
Thousands:
The bad news of course is that
late Friday afternoon a devastating 7.4 earthquake followed by a tsunami which
reached heights up to 6 m (according to reliable sources) struct Sulawesi, Indonesia.
The death toll of this
horrific event is already up over 800 and officials and I predict that it will
reach into the thousands perhaps even 2,000 before it's all over as they
finally ascertain the damage and loss of life.
Our hearts and prayers go
out to our northern neighbours on the island of Sulawesi over 1,000 km from the
Bali International Airport.
This area of Indonesia which
is prone to earthquakes and tsunamis in the past will take a long time to
recover. In fact, my wife has relatives in the area which we still have not
heard from.
The Ugly News:
The other negative news on
the world stage is the fact that America is tearing itself apart as bipartisan
individuals broadcast sworn testimonials from both accuser and accused during
the Supreme Court nominee hearings in Washington DC. Unfortunately, it is
showing the truly ugly American side of the whole affair.
I feel sincerely sorry for
Americans, especially my close American friends’, who are trying to hide their
identity as they travel throughout the world because all the world sees is the
dirt and the ugliness of the current American political situation.
I would not want to be
American travelling these days as the first thing many people would say is “what
do you think about Donald Trump”. The normal answer from my friends is “He is not
my president. I didn't vote for him”.
He has single-handedly
alienated himself and the United States from many of the top nations in the
world including China, Europe, and even its closest neighbour and friend, Canada.
Donald Trump boasts in his
book “The Art of the Deal” about always been able to make the deal. He doesn't
realize that there is more to life than money and whenever you're negotiating
with anybody “both parties must come away from the table feeling good”.
“Both parties must come away from the table feeling good”.
He
also does not realize that he cannot keep his campaign promise of “Making
America great again” if he makes deals that are so harsh that people only
reluctantly signed them but, in the background, despise both him and the United
States
The Good News:
As I always tell my sons “every
problem has a solution and every solution is either time or money or a
combination of both”.
“Every problem has a solution and every solution is either
time or money or a combination of both”
It's hard currently when we
see constant news about the Sulawesi earthquake and Tsunami aftermath to see
any good news on the horizon but there is plenty.
A small piece of good news
is that Lombok, an island closer to Bali is recovering from its horrific
earthquake it suffered on August 5th. which killed hundreds of
people and destroyed thousands of homes.
Unfortunately, many tourists
have cancelled their reservations to Lombok to come to Bali.
The good news for the people
of Lombok is that the aftershocks have subsided substantially. There have been
very few in the recent past.
Hopefully the people of Lombok
can stop worrying about the next big earthquake and start refocusing on
rebuilding their lives.
The Eternal Optimist:
Being the eternal optimist, I always like to look beyond current
events to the future.
Largest I.M.F. Meeting in History:
Next week Bali will be hosting the International Monetary Fund
annual meeting which will bring to Bali over 20 world leaders and an estimated 15,000
delegates and their families.
It has been touted as the
largest annual meeting of IMF in history.
One does not have to guess
why most I.M.F. delicates would love to go to Bali for a meeting instead of
some cold, dark often polluted city such as Chicago or Beijing.
Starting in a few days the
international press will be all over this with press releases about everything
related to the I.M.F. meeting including where they are staying, what
attractions they are visiting and of course what is discussed during this
annual meeting.
Our President Ir. H.
Joko Widodo known fondly as Jokowi could not have asked for better timing for this meeting as he is going
into an election year next year This conference will allow him to receive
substantial Free Press from the world stage.
There is no better advertising for a country than to have their
country featured on the international news every half hour for almost a week.
A latent benefit from this
meeting is that it shows that although there are earthquakes and tsunamis thousands
of kilometres away, Bali is safe enough to even have 20 of the world's leaders
attend this conference.
Little Effect on Bali:
In fact, Bali has seen very
little effect from the earthquakes on Sulawesi and Lombok as the tourists
continue to flood in.
Our bookings at our Bali Luxury Villas have been equal to or higher than last
year. This of course is good news for our company, our staff and all the
supporting businesses in Sanur and Bali that our guests’ patronize.
Another small piece of good
news is that the U.S. dollar finally seems to be dropping a little bit against
the Indonesian rupiah the last few weeks. After rising rapidly, it topped off
and is now coming down. This could be good news for Indonesians who purchase
goods from abroad.
Bali’s Unemployment Rate Extremely
Low:
Another piece of good news
that has fallen through the cracks is the fact that the Bali government
reported last week that their unemployment rate is less than 1%. When you
compare that to America where Donald Trump Brags about a 4-5% unemployment
rate we are the envy of many places in the world.
Bali Real Estate on an
Upswing:
Finally, I would like to
report that my predictions made last year about this time that the Bali real
estate market had stopped falling.
After a four-year downturn in prices which followed the first
downturn in modern history triggered by speculation demand and prices now appear
to be starting back up.
Some examples of this are
our own Bali Luxury
Villas which start as low as $158,000 and have not sold for a few years. In
the last couple months two, or 4 % have sold.
Another example is
beachfront properties, which again virtually none have sold for a couple years.
In the last two weeks I've heard of one large property worth several million
dollars and another smaller property worth close to $1 million selling just up
the coast from us. You amy see over 200 recent listings at heaveilt discounted
prices at Best Asia Real Estate
Finally, what I call one the
best Bali real estate indicators of all is the Jakarta Chinese who are back bottom
hunting looking for bargains. I have lived here for 22 years and anytime they
have come into a market and start buying prices usually start back up and then
all her friends want to get in as well.
I am more than ever solidly
convinced that my prediction made one year ago that this is the second-best
time to buy Bali real estate this century is a truism.
Free Bali Real Estate Investment Seminars:
In fact, I'm spending time and money to run seminars starting this
week.
To find out what's happened in the Bali market, where to buy, how to
get prices as much is 50% discount from 2014 and how to make profits from 10 to
14% per yr. read the following information.
Make a booking soon because it looks like were going to be
overbooked.
Conclusion:
If we focus on the depressing things
around us we will become depressed, less productive and possibly even destroy our
health.
Life is all about cycles and as a famous
author that I follow extensively, Napoleon Hill said “every adversity has
within it the seed of an equal or greater benefit”
“Every
adversity has within it the seed of an equal or greater benefit”
No matter what is going in the world or
in your life always look for “the seed of an equal or greater benefit”.
Once you find the seed plant it, nurture
it, and watch it grow into an equal or greater benefit.
Wishing you, your love ones and everyone
throughout the world a happy, successful, and profitable final quarter, 2018.
