BaliNews.id - The Covid-19 pandemic in Indonesia seems to be under control.
Even some sectors that invite a lot of people are slowly starting to open up.
As in Bali, the Pelebon ceremony which was held in the Matahari Terbit Beach area, Sanur was held by implementing strict health protocols, Friday (8/10).
The ceremonial procession was a series of pelebon Ida Pedanda Nabe Dwija Ngenjung from Griya Jro Gede Sanur, Denpasar. The late is also a pioneering figure in Sanur tourism.
Even in pelebon, the controlled situation in the pandemic has provided new opportunities for Pulau Seribu Pura to rise up with its masterpiece in the tourism sector.
Because the Ngaben ceremony is one of the most sought after destinations by tourists, and is now being held with strict health protocols.
As revealed by religious leaders as well as the Covid-19 Task Force for the Sanur area, Mangku Praja said the pelebon ceremony process during the Covid-19 pandemic had followed government regulations.

Previously, pelebon stopped for more than a year, then replaced with limited cremation in the crematorium to avoid crowds. "This cremation ceremony in Sanur was designed one year ago, but because the pandemic continues, this event has been postponed twice," explained Mangku Praja.
The main plan for the pelebon ceremony was actually August 15th, but due to the ongoing pandemic, the ceremony was postponed to October 6th. “In carrying out the ceremony in Sanur, the health protocol in Sanur is very strict. At the place of the new entry ceremony, there must be a hand washing area, secondly there is a hand sanitizer, thirdly, after the peak of the pandemic, residents are required to take vaccinations, those who have not participated in the vaccine are not allowed to enter the event venue," he added.
To check the vaccination status of visitors, the ceremony committee requires them to scan the PeduliLindung QR Code at the entrance. In addition, continued Mangku Praja, all committee members who were involved in the ceremony had an antigen swab the day before the event and sprayed disinfection of the event venue.
"My hope and the general public in Sanur, I caution that people in carrying out the new normal will continue to follow health protocols and always maintain their immune system in terms of maintaining health so that tourism or life in Bali can run as before," said Mangku Praja.
Editors Comments:
Often during my past 23 years living and prospering sun or Bali I came across a name Ida Pedanda Nabe Gede Dwija Ngenjung.
It was famous in early his early life for building some of the most successful hotels in Bali's Sanur Beach in particular the Hotel griya Santian andPuri Santrian.
I have attended over the years many functions there and more recently during the pandemic family have off dine there for its great ambience and fine cuisnee.
Below is a personal account I found from wellwhen he was just beginning to build hotels in Bali.
There's no question that he was beloved by many and one of the most successful business and spiritual leaders.
May he rest in peace
Congratulations Jalan Ida Pedanda Nabe Gede Dwija Ngenjung
SANUR , late 1971.
The blue 90cc Honda motorcycle stopped in front of me under a coconut tree.
"Sister, the foreman's brother is here?"
I replied respectfully, "That's right, sir, I'm a picker for sand and stone trucks." He continued, "Would you like to build a hotel for the people of Bandung, which has a restaurant in the north of "pengkolan" (turning -Red) to Segara?"
I replied again with the same attitude, "That's right sir, his name is Sjachrum Jahja (old spelling)."
"What's your sister's name?" connect him again.
I replied: "I'm Paul sir…"
He continued, “When you have time to play, go to the South, come to my place.
I'm also cleaning, I plan to build a hotel too. It's next to Tanjung Sari, pass a bit, that's my place. If you want to go by the beach, that's even better. I'm Tjetana, Ida Bagus Tjetana Putra. I am an employee of the Bali Beach Hotel, the Personnel section.”
I wrote down the name, in my heart and promised to come there. Certainly. Then he started his Honda and said goodbye to the South. At that time there was only a path. There is no asphalt road yet. Only 1-2 people pass by.
That was my first impression of meeting Ida Pedanda Nabe Gede Dwija Ngenjung.
Friends, after he left me, I got a deep impression. The person is simple, the tone is very soft. During the conversation he noticed that I was only wearing a t-shirt and flip-flops but put me as the other person without any sense of difference.
I was dealing with an “Ida Bagus” at that time — from my experience — “there is a difference”, maybe just my personal opinion and feelings.
Three days later, I walked along the beach, passed the Tanjung Sari Hotel, continued south to his place. At that time he was there. I immediately said hello and he seemed happy to meet me. I no longer wear flip-flops, but rubber boots. I saw that there were already several piles of sand, stones and red bricks.
"Sister Paul, here will be our hotel."
I nodded in understanding. Then we chatted here and there, including the plan to build a Gazebo later, how many rooms, whether there are prospective employees, all of which I answered with: "I don't know." Because I don't know what the next plan is. Then I said goodbye to go back to the North where I work. We still see each other almost every week, always after 3.00pm.
In July 1972, Hotel GAZEBO officially opened. Since then I have been very busy at the hotel. One day I wanted to visit him in the South, at his place I found a sign that said: “Santrian Beach Hotel”.
Indeed, a few days earlier I heard the sound of a bustling and beautiful gamelan coming from the south, but I didn't know what program was going on there. Maybe it's called "Melaspas."
Bali Sanur Bungalow
At the end of 1972 Mr. Sjachrum Jahja asked me to visit Mr. Ida Bagus Tjetana Putra at the Santrian hotel with a message to come visit the Gazebo, because there was a meeting. Those present there were Mr. Ida Bagus Tjetana Putra, Mr. Ida Bagus Alit, there were 2 gentlemen from the hotel in the south,– I forget his name– and a mother who owns the hotel to the west of KFC.
I do not know the contents of the meeting. Those present at the time were the Head of Bank Bumi Daya Denpasar. From that meeting, as a young and green person, I heard whispers that Mr. Sjahrum introduced the hotel owners to the Chairman of Bank Bumi Daya earlier. What I know – then – is that the hotels in Sanur were merged under the name: Bali Sanur Bungalow, — except for the Santrian Beach Hotel–.
Time goes by very fast. Unexpectedly, we met in Bangkok in 1982 for the sake of Pata Mart. Since then we often meet in the overseas tourist market in the cities of Asean countries. And I always send tourists from the company I lead in Jakarta to Hotel Santrian.
One time he left a message through my Representative Office in Bali—under the leadership of Mr. Made Sutapa (late)—if I went to Bali, I was asked to “stop over” to Hotel Santrian (which is now Hotel Grya Santrian).
I fulfilled that request. When we met — over dinner — we talked about wholesalers and tour operators in order to continuously send tourists to Santrian. I told him that I would still try and pay special attention to Santrian Beach Hotel.
My promise was fulfilled in early 1997 when I became an agent of an wholesaler American . I only handle post tours ex Thailand and Vietnam. Not many, they consist of 4 couples , a maximum of 6 couples sometimes once a week. I put them in Grya Santrian. During my several times to Grya Santrian, I did not meet him. Always at odds.
When in 2000, I put group another from America – every week 2 groups, 32-40 people each –, one day I met him. He rebuked me that why did I not go to him. I did avoid by saying I often go out of the area, –actually I hesitate-. I witnessed his extraordinary success. I'm also grateful that he achieved that success through very hard work.
One day in 2001 I met the Sales Manager, Mr. Made Suardana, in the hotel area. Mr. Made whispered to me, he said: "You ask, Mr. Paul what do you want - as a sign of gratitude -."
I'm confused, I can't answer. But I have to give an answer. I looked up, in front of me was an ornamental banana. I said: “I want a decorative banana like that.” While I pointed at the ornamental banana tree.
Pak Made was stunned, then said: "Okay sir, I will tell you."
In the afternoon when I received the call, it was Pak Made Suardana. From the other side I heard: "Pak Paul, where are you going to plant the banana tree?"
I just answered: "When it comes, I'll plant it myself, sir."
"Ohhhhh, we're at home, sir, there's a planter here who is ready to plant."
I thought for a while, then replied, “Okay sir, in the front east corner. Plant it there, I'm still in Ubud."
When I arrived home, I was very surprised, and also touched, because there were two big banana trees, about 7 meters high. I thought that the banana saplings that were 30 cm – 1 meter high were enough. It turned out that what was brought had to be loaded in a truck with five gardeners, plus Mr. Made Suardana.
Waiting for Bade to Pass
Hearing that he had passed away, I came to visit with friends from Asita Bali.
Today October 8, 2021, I passed the road that I usually take when I go to the office, LLAJR police are at every crossroads. Along the road, people are in groups and some are sitting around waiting for Bade (where the body is to be cremated) passing this route. That was “he” route – in the past – when he started building hotels, developing tourism, building Sanur, his hometown, and building Bali and Indonesia.
At the Bali Beach intersection, I watched elementary and junior high school age children. They sat there, I suspect they were waiting for Ida Pedanda to “pass”. They know that Ida Pedanda Nabe Gede Dwija Ngenjung does not only build and manage hotels for himself, his family and his extended family. But also to build Sanur Village through the Sanur Village Development Foundation with other Sanur figures. Participate in building and caring for the banjar community and schools. The community was present, waiting on the side of the road, the route of Ida Pedanda's cremation ceremony to convey his matur suksema (thank you).
Without realizing my tears fell. I remember the calm face, gentle voice and simple appearance of Mr. Ida Bagus Tjetana Putra.
Welcome to the Pioner Hotel in Sanur-Bali.
Goodbye Ida Pedanda Nabe Gede Dwija Ngenjung.
Heaven, Nirvana is waiting for the Queen there.
