TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police’s traffic corps will officially limit the number of passengers allowed in a vehicle that is adamant to travel back to Indonesian rural areas, commonly referred to as ‘mudik’ or the mass-homecoming. This is said to prevent the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Traffic corps chief, Insp. Gen. Istiono gave examples of sedans that will be limited to a maximum of two people and people carriers such as SUVs will be limited to three people. “Meanwhile, for those who have no option but to travel by motorcycle, they will not be allowed to ride in tandem,” said the police chief today.
Apart from limiting passengers aboard vehicles, Istiono said police have established multiple police posts that will be able to handle coronavirus cases and refer people to the closest hospital that can handle the virus.
The traffic corps reminds people about the risk homecomers face in terms of coronavirus and asserts that those who travel to their hometowns will immediately be given the ‘person under monitoring’ status or ODP and will be required to commit to self-isolation for a minimum of 14-days.

World Coronavirus Statistics.
Yesterday April 7th. marked 83 days or approximately 2 3/4 mths since the first confirmed 45 cases of coronavirus were reported in China on Jan. 16th. We have since learned that the virus actually broke out in December but either China didn't realize how dangerous it was or was not reporting the problem for other reasons.
News cases approaching 1.5 Million.
Sadly over 79,001 have succumbed to the disease which is 5.74% of those diagnosed worldwide.
According to the World Health Organization, we had 2,738 confirmed cases in Indonesia which is a 20.5% increase over the day before. Indonesia Coronavirus Statistics.
Yesterday April 7th. marked 36 days or a little over one month since the first confirmed case of coronavirus was reported in Indonesia.
Considering that these cases took place in Indonesia with the fourth largest population in the world with a population of 274,000,000. that is still only 10 Cases per One Million People in Indonesia.
That is a small fraction of Indonesians that die on the road every day, especially from motorbike accidents.

According to the World Health Organization, we had 43 confirmed cases in Indonesia yesterday. A 0% increase over the day before. Note, these numbers may not be accurate and may be updated in a few hours
This means that the amount of new cases is accelerating as more are tested.
Fortunately, only 2 individuals have lost their lives to the disease. They are tourists from England and Italy. They were thought to have brought the disease with them when they came into Bali from their home country or from catching it during transit to Bali.
No doubt many more have the disease but have not been tested yet will be added to the statistic.

Many doctors including CNN's Chief Medical Correspondent, Dr. Sanjay Gupta have confirmed that that coronavirus is seasonal and does not like high temperatures above 27 Degree Centigrade.Perhaps this is why Bali, which is in close proximity to China and had many Chinese tourists during the Chinese new year back in February has no confirmed cases as of this point.
After doing the above odds I have just been confirmed to myself that I will not be canceling our family trip around the world in June.
