Approximately 19
hours ago I was concerned about not receiving any information on the Internet
or through the social media networks about the recent severe post-election
demonstrations in Jakarta.
I posted on an unblocked Facebook page the following
question regarding the presidential election demonstrations which led to six to
eight deaths, hundreds of injuries and almost a thousand arrests.
I hoped that someone
using unblocked with VPN Internet access on Facebook or social media networks
which were not blocked by the government would answer exactly what was going on
in Jakarta?
I asked the following question “Is
it there Anybody in Jakarta who can report on the current status of
demonstrations I would appreciate it.” Lawrence Bmb
The answer I received
from someone who lives there was.
“No more Demonstrations. All under control 👍Business
back as usually.”
This confirms
information I had been receiving from my friends and associates in Jakarta that
everything had pretty will calm down.
What could have been
a national emergency created by possible Isis terrorists instigating several
thousand extreme protesters were curtailed by some very swift action by the
government.
Evidently from what I can ascertain the government found that several supporters had American currencies which they found out were provided to them by several people to pay for them to protest.
In other words, these people were not protesting because of their conviction that the opposition presidential candidate was cheated but simply wanted to make some money.
Many of the
protesters were from small towns and villages in Java. Most were Young adults
who have very little going on in life and jumped at the opportunity to be
involved in something with some action. Especially when if they could see their
face shown on social media or the news.
It didn’t take long
before the government analyzed the mobile phones of these protesters who were
paid for their effort to determine who paid these individuals were.
In the end hundreds
were arrested at the protest site and throughout Indonesia for participating in
unauthorized protests.
Also, from what I’m
reading the six and possibly eight individuals that were killed during the demonstration may have been killed by the protester's leaders who wanted a martyr
-type situation which would further fuel the protesters.
I congratulate the
person most responsible for ending this process in a relatively short time. The
buck stopped with Pres. Joko Widodo who had the foresight to bring in an
estimated 60,000 troops and only arming them with rubber bullets, according to
government sources.
I also congratulate
all the 60,000 troops for their and professionalism when they did not get carried
away with threats, their lives such as rocks and even fireworks fired directly
at them.
We cannot forget to
congratulate the masterminds who decided to put a ban on social media networks
and possibly even slow down the Internet to a point where nobody could download
current information.
This prevented false
news from spreading through the network and perhaps leading to even more
violence.
Although personally
it was frustrating especially when I was trying new Internet banking, I think
it was a master decision that prevented fake news from causing further damage,
deaths and injuries.
So, the bottom line
is it appears that it is all over although there is always a chance of small
protests.
The president, his
cabinet, the Army and police force have shown that they can control even mass
demonstrations.
There is no question
in my mind that everything will get back to normal.
I’m so convinced that
in fact, I am not canceling my planned road trips with my family throughout
Java and Sumatra which includes stop off in major cities including Jakarta.
Those concerned about
coming to Indonesia, especially Bali which is almost 1,000 km or 620 Miles from
Jakarta should alleviate their concerns, get on the plane and come enjoy
paradise.
