FOCUS NEWSIMF-WB meeting in Bali
Jakarta - Minister of Finance in the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY), Chatib Basri, views the annual meeting of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank (WB) taking place in Bali next week for Indonesia. 

"One of the benefits of the annual meeting is that we can fight for our ideas in these forums," Chatib said via his Twitter account, @ ChatibBasri, as quoted by detikFinance , Sunday (10/10/2018).

The annual meeting also discussed various issues surrounding the world economic situation. Indonesia can take part by conveying its ideas. Surely the world economic situation is not the only topic discussed.


"In this meeting, the world economic situation was discussed, discussions about the policies of countries, technological developments, etc. Indonesia could use it to communicate and enter its ideas," he said.

According to Chatib, the IMF supports Indonesia in paying attention to economic conditions, especially in emerging or developing countries.

"With Governor Rajan of India at that time in a limited meeting, I asked the Bernanke from the Fed (US Central Bank) to communicate and consider the impact of the policy on emerging economies. The IMF supports us," he explained.

"In 2014, when Yellen became chair of the Fed, he began to communicate his policy, so that other countries are ready. At G-20 Sydney for example, Governor Rajan and I became lead speakers with Yellen at that time, discussing the impact of Fed policy on emerging markets, "he added.

Previously reported, Deputy Speaker of the House Fadli Zon said that the IMF-WB meeting did not give any positive impact for Indonesia, for example on strengthening the rupiah.

"The IMF / World Bank annual meeting has no impact on strengthening the rupiah," Fadli Zon said via his Twitter account @fadlizon as quoted by detikFinance, Sunday (10/07/2018).
