Days Five and Six:
The next day we headed up to Nanaimo for a pre-organized sailing adventure with one of my friends and client.
I wanted to give my family a taste of a real American Canadian log cabin and booked a beautiful two bedroom cabin with log walls, but modern interior, including Wi-Fi just a few meters from the beach.
The next morning I rose early to the sound of something moving outside the window. As I walked outside I saw nothing but later on down the street I realized it was it was a young buck and Doe which are very common in this area. Later I saw a huge rabbit and finally as I returned back to the cabin to a Racoon who was very shy. I then woke my older son up and took him out to experience this natural wildlife.
Later that day we went to visit my friend and his beautiful house on the water which he built the last few years.
I’ve often said about Vancouver and Victoria if the weather was like this at least it several months a year I would move back because it just doesn’t get much better than this.
Next morning we arose and after another walk with a beautiful sunrise we continued back to our friend’s place where we went for a day sail on his beautiful 35 foot yacht.
The wind was perfect at 12 to 15 kn and we scooted along at 6 to 7.5 kn. Reminded me of the old days when I was 21 when I bought my first yacht and use to sail these waters catching fresh salmon and plucking fresh clams and oyster off the rocks.
Unfortunately the Nikon somehow deleted the photos.
As I’m walking back with my friend he commented Lawrence sometimes I think I’m dreaming. I have a beautiful house here to enjoy spring and summer weather and then I have my huge luxury villa at your complex in Bali along with the sailboat and all other toys. I commented “you worked hard all your life and you deserve everything you have”. He agreed
Later we took them out to dinner and his wife decided to take our son’s in their vintage Porsche which the boys thoroughly enjoyed.
We feasted at his friend’s Thai restaurant and then bid farewell until we meet again in Bali.
Day Seven:
The next morning we decided to catch the 6:30 ferry from Nanaimo on Vancouver Island to Horseshoe Bay on the mainland next to Vancouver.
My goal was to drive up to Famous Whistler Mountain where I use to be a ski instructor.
On the way we stopped at Lions Bay where I purchased my first property at age 22. Although it had a gorgeous beach view which for some reason it was never developed and now looks over a first-class Marina.
The road to Whistler as always is magnificent with it’s towering white capped mountains. The boys couldn’t wait to get out of the car and play in the snow.
On the way we stopped at the famous Beaver Lake which is now is very popular for hikers and climbers.
Further down the road we stopped by the famous Shannon Falls and took some photos.
Then we drove the road to Whistler which has improved dramatically over the last 40 years.
What use to take two and half hours is now only 1.5 hours.
Finally we arrived at Whistler, took a look around for accommodations for future ski vacations and then drove back to Vancouver.
We stopped at the Famous Troll’s restaurant for one of the best fish and chips in the world.
Our return trip took us through West Vancouver across the picturesque Lions Gate Bridge.
Finally after a very hectic start we settled into our home exchange in Richmond and enjoyed the luxuries of this magnificent home.
Celebrating Canada’s 150 anniversary from “Sea to Shining Sea”. To be continued Week Two
