"Silver Tsunami"
Lawrence, who has been providing free seminars for the last 20 years with very accurate predictions about Bali's future now predicts that there will be a "Silver Tsunami" of silver-haired individuals seeking to invest and or retire part-time or full-time in Bali.
The Indonesian government makes it easy for any Baby boomers from any country in the world to retire here.
Bali Retirement Visa Requirements:
- Applicants must be 55 or older.
- Applicants must rent, lease or own a lease on a home in Bali.
- Applicants must employ at least one Indonesian staff which will cost only approximately $200 USD a month. A Full-time housekeeper will do.
- Applicants must prove they have healthcare which is available from your home country or through international healthcare systems.
- Applicants must prove that they have enough money in their bank account to ship their bodies back home should they, unfortunately, pass away in Bali.
There are a few other minor criteria that most people will have no problem meeting.
So then comes the question what's it like to live in Bali?
Over the coming months, Lawrence has decided to publish everything that a baby boomer retiree needs to know to make a prudent decision to invest or retire part-time or full-time in Bali in a series of detailed blog posts with photos.
Today's Subject: What's it like to live with all the Frequent ceremonies?
Lawrence is reminded of an episode that happened several years ago after he had become a massage addict, usually having one massage almost every day, since they only cost $5.00 per day.
On a certain day, he tried to contact his massage therapist who had been treating him for years. He found that she wasn't answering her phone.
He began to become frustrated after several days of missing his therapeutic relaxing stress releasing massages.
When he finally he got a hold of her and she came for a massage he asked: “why haven't you been answering your phone the last few days?”
She answered, “we had a major ceremony at the temple and I was very busy”.
Out of curiosity, he asked, “what is it you do at this temple all the time?”
She answered., “I pray”.
Lawrence responded, “what do you pray for?” She said, “Health, luck, and money.”
He replied, “I have news for you. If you would have answered your phone the last couple of days you would have made a couple hundred thousand rupiah. You would not have to pray for the money you would've made it.”
She replied, “yes but we have to do it for the tourists.”
Lawrence laughed and finally conceded.
He couldn't argue with that because one of the largest attractions to Bali is it’s frequent, colorful ceremonies.

When you first arrive in Bali often you may run into traffic jams caused by ceremonial processions going back and forth between temples and the beaches.
Many tourists may get frustrated at first but after a while, they get used to it and in fact begin to enjoy it.
Bali is approximately 85 % Hindu.
Hinduism, as it recognizes many deities.
To account for this belief in a single god, Balinese Hindus pray to Sang Jyang Widhi, one god that encompasses all Hindu gods.
Sang Jyang Widhi is a single entity that is able to manifest itself as many gods. Whenever a temple or shrine has an empty seat (and most do), this is a symbol for Sang Jyang Widhi.
Typically, Sang Jyang Widhi is honored through the three main Hindu Gods (the Trimurti), Brahma, Wisnu, and Shiva. Brahma is the creator, Wisnu is the preserver, and Shiva is the destroyer.
While it’s not possible to cover all of the nuances of Balinese Hindus in a single post, it is easy to discover these stories and legends yourself.
One thing that Balinese Hindus are famous for is their willingness to share and explain different aspects of their religion to outsiders, inviting you to see for yourself how Bali earned its nickname. “The Island of the Gods”
Where Lawrence lives in a beautiful beachfront resort on the east coast of Bali close to Sanur and Ubud where there is what's called a major temple.
One of the advantages of living close to a major temple as Lawrence explains, "is that there are many rules in Bali regarding setbacks from temples. The one you must adhere to for sure is the 400 m setback from any major temple.
In Bali setback means that no one can build permanent residences within that area.
Therefore, Bali Paradise Beach Estates where Lawrence lives has a 360° view of original rice paddies, volcanic mountains, and beaches that may never change because it is within the 400 m setback of the major temple.

Another advantage of being so close to a major temple is that Pantai Purnama beach is a major destination for ceremonies to celebrate the different deities of Bali.
When you live close to a major temple it's better if you are an early riser because often you will find sunrise ceremonies with large possession such as the one that occurred on November 11, 2019.
You may awake to find hundreds or sometimes even thousands of colorful Balinese dressed in traditional costume in a procession that may have started at one of the temples or Banjars as far away as 50 km and ended up with a beach blessing.
They usually last no more than an hour and provide for some very Kodak moment photographs.
As Lawrence says often over the last 23 years he's had to plan to go around major ceremonies and finds it useful to find out when they are being held.
The bottom line is the tourists love them and don't mind waiting while the kaleidoscope of beautiful colored ceremonies passes by.
Lawrence reflects that, "I've traveled to many places in the world and there are more beautiful beaches but no place in the world have I found the people more pleasant, honest and easy to get along with.
He continues, " these frequent ceremonies allow them to leave their stressful jobs and go spend time with their neighbors in a religious environment which includes praying and meditating that makes Bali so special."
