Azizah at Bali airport Christmas tree |
The first thing we do is stop at one of the mobile phone Sim card kiosks and top up are prone which only cost five RMB 424 hours with 20 GB. That's approximately a dollar and $1.20.
Unfortunately our airport trip started off badly when we once again were forced to rent airport transport through the taxi monopoly at the airport.
We always pay a little extra for Premium car which most of the time wouldn't qualify for regular tax in Bali.
You have to walk through the airport and take an escalator downstairs two where the premium cars are kept in the dark. Unfortunately is so dark you can even really tell what the car looks like from the outside.
Most have extremely poor paint jobs faded by the harsh Malaysian sun.
It is impossible to tell the quality of the car until you get inside it because it's darkly lit outside. Soon, as I got in to this trips car I wanted to get back out.
The driver had us out of the airport before the light really revealed just how bad this so called premium taxi was.
It was by far the worst taxi I've ever sat in my entire long life which included decades of travelling abroad in places such as India Turkey etc.
Mold on Door Grossed me out |
The mould was literally growing off the ceiling dropping like satellites.
It wasn't long before my dust mite allergies started going off, which take a lot these days since my ozone treatments has prevented most of it in Bali.
I asked him to roll down some windows and none of the windows in the car worked. So in essence we were stuck in this moldy filthy coffin for an hour while we drove into KL. Needless to say I didn't give him a tip and there will be a tripadvisor warning against this company today.
This is what happens when a monopoly runs Airport transportation and there's no competition..
The next time I will take a little bit extra time and organize for Grab taxi which we found to be excellent in K.L. or and will cost 20 to 30% less.
For sure the automobiles will be 5 to 10 years younger.
We then checked into our favourite hotel suite in K.L. the Fraser Residence which always has modern suites available at a very reasonable price.
We grabbed a quick Thai salad from the Thai restaurant downstairs which is very excellent, had nap, freshened up and took off for the Pavilion mall close to the hotel.
It was there that I was reminded of how big big Christmas is to the retail industry with massive lights and Christmas music playing throughout
It was Black Friday and the bargains were fantastic including 60% to 70% off in places like guests.
I observed very patient husbands waiting for their wives to make decisions knowing that in their minds they are saying "please don't spend too much".
Next morning we got up early and took a quick grab over to the National Museum. Didn't have time to go in so we took some great shots outside.
.
I even managed to find some XXL shirts for me which are difficult to find in Asia. High quality, at a very reasonable price.
The mall was ready for Christmas with elaborate decorations throughout.
I went back in time to my days in Canada remembering the malls and the special feeling that comes from first going into them at Christmas time.
As it was on the tenant a.m. the mall was deserted I'm sure was full to capacity later. My favourite type of shopping without a lot of people to avoid.
It wasn't long before the mall began to fill up and it was time for us to leave. Perfect timing.
At any rate a very quick 24 hr trip most to Bali's neighbor Kula Lumpur
