This week our youngest son Darius enjoyed a small birthday party at home on the 19th followed by a huge party yesterday.
As many parties in Bali go the attendance just keep on growing and growing and growing.
From the original 12 fellow students in his class at the Gandhi Memorial School including a teacher or two.
Then of course you have to invite the in-laws their friends and their staff.
Add a few more people that just happened to be in town from from other countries and you've end up with a huge gathering.
Fortunately in Bali it doesn't cost too much to run a large party especially when you have your own restaurant which can take care of the catering at no extra cost above the cost of the food and drink.
All in all was a great day and Darius enjoyed himself immensely.
I looked over at my good friends Joy and Patrick at one point and said if I can harness Darius's energy for for four hours at a birthday party I could run an entire villa are complex for a month.
The day was highlighted with games including carrying a marble on a spoon while running, plus the traditional sack race.
Later everyone jumped in the pool and then enjoyed a lovely simple buffet.
At the end of the day I looked at Darius and I said don't expect this again until you turn 13, which of course is when you go from a boy to a teenager.

Special thanks to Darius's Mother, my lovely wife Azizah, who worked tirelessly through the week to insure that Darius had a memorable birthday.
