Bali & World News & Views Editor's Comments :
Recently I commented that my fear is that Donald Trump may in fact engage North Korea in a limited or full on war to deflect growing criticism about him and his administration which seems to be falling apart.
There's no faster way to get the public's mind off of problems at the White House then to have a war which is featured on CNN every day.
What really scares me at this point is we have two madmen leaders of America and North Korea facing off against each other.
North Korea's leader Kim Yong Yun is also facing the same problem at home now that he has severe sanctions placed on him by the United Nations last week which could cause critical food shortages and loss of income for North Korea.
He too would turn the public to his side if he was in fact to launch a missile at America.
The repercussions would be horrific but remember severe major wars in the past have been started by less then this current rhetoric.
It appears that gold and silver are reacting to this tension.
Still Hope:
Fortunately it appears that finally China, basically the bread basket for Korea, is also taking this current tension seriously realizing that if America was to launch an attack on Korea it would probably win with overwhelming nuclear force.
There would be atomic clouds flowing over China and later a force of American and South Korea troops occupying a country on their boarder. Definitely not a good military solution for China.
At this point I still believe there's a 70% chance that cooler heads will prevail and everybody realizes that just like a fight between two grown men nobody wins and both parties will be hurt.
In the meanwhile I am very happy that my family and I live in Bali which is definitely not on North Korea's scope.
Also from my limited knowledge I believe that any nuclear clouds from bombs dropped on Korea would be sucked up into the jet stream and flow from North Korea to Japan and all the over the Pacific Ocean perhaps even reaching Alaska, Canada's Pacific Coast and Mexico.
North Korea threatens strike on Guam
Updated 0143 GMT (0943 HKT) August 9, 2017
Washington (CNN)North Korea's military is "examining the operational plan" to strike areas around Guam with medium-to-long-range strategic ballistic missiles, state-run news agency KCNA said early Wednesday local time.
The threat comes just hours after US President Donald Trump warned Pyongyang that if they continued to threaten the US, they would "face fire and fury like the world has never seen."
The North Korean threat elucidated in its state media is a reaction to the flight of US B-1B bombers over the Korean peninsula. The bombers flew out of Andersen Air Force Base in Guam.
While the statement in KCNA came out following Trump's threat, it would have taken several hours to draft and translate, and refers directly to the US flights.
"In the morning of August 8 the air pirates of Guam again appeared in the sky above South Korea to stage a mad-cap drill simulating an actual war," the statement reads.
The bombers flew out of Guam on Monday as part of the US Air Force's "continuous bomber presence," according to the spokesman. The bombers were joined by Japanese and South Korean aircraft during their mission.

Key military installation
Dubbed the "Tip of the Spear," Guam is a key to the US military's forward deployed presence in the Pacific and is home to thousands of American service members and their families.
The statement from a spokesman from the Strategic Force of the Korean People's Army, warned that recent US military maneuvers -- including an intercontinental ballistic missile test last week and a bomber flight on Monday -- "may provoke a dangerous conflict."
Specifically, the statement mentioned a potential strike on "Andersen Air Force Base in which the US strategic bombers, which get on the nerves of the DPRK and threaten and blackmail it through their frequent visits to the sky above south Korea, are stationed and to send a serious warning signal to the US."
